Stay Warm and Safe This Winter
With the winter season we all tend to spend most of our time indoors trying to stay warm. While sometimes snuggling in bed and drinking hot cocoa will do the trick, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here with a couple tips on how to stay warm (and safe!) this season.
Install Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Confirm you have carbon monoxide (CO) detectors installed on every floor of your home, particularly near bedrooms, and test them to confirm they are functioning. Since CO does not have a smell and cannot be detected, it’s vital that you have operating CO detectors to make sure your family is safe.
Get Your Chimney Inspection
This is the ideal time of year to get the fireplace going, but before you do, make sure you have your chimney cleaned and inspected by an expert. The fireplace can be a source of CO if you don’t have it regularly cleaned and maintained.
Be Careful with Space Heaters
Space heaters are normally safe, energy efficient, and a successful way to heat small sections of your home, but verify it has been authorized by a recognized testing laboratory and comes with an automatic shut-off feature. Obey all manufacturer’s instructions and be sure it is placed on a hard, level surface at least 36 inches away from any flammable items.
Furnace Tune-Up
With a furnace tune-up from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Calgary, we will perform a safety check of your furnace to be sure there are no leaks or CO problems. Along with a heating tune-up, confirm your heating vents are not blocked and that you’re swapping out your air filter every month. This will avoid the air flow from becoming restricted and help avoid allergens from aggravating respiratory issues.
