5 Reasons Why Your Air Conditioner May Not Feel Cool

When the temp begins to rise outside, you depend on your air conditioner to keep your residence cozy. Your AC might be running, but the air blowing from your vents feels lukewarm.

Here are the most common reasons why this takes place and what you need to do about it. If you require air conditioning repair in Calgary, the Experts at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning can help. Like always, all our AC repair labor is supported by a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.*

1.Your Thermostat is Set Incorrectly

Check the fan setting. If it is switched to “on,” the fan will run even when the AC compressor isn’t running. Nothing’s wrong with this, but your cooling costs will be bigger if the fan is on constantly. Adjust the setting to “auto,” and the blower will only run when the compressor is running. This also means the air radiating from the vents will always feel cool.

2.Filter is Dirty

The HVAC air filter traps airborne particles that can damage your heating and cooling system. If it gets too clogged, it can lower airflow. This reduces how much warm air goes over the indoor evaporator coil. If the refrigerant moving through the coil becomes too cold, it freezes, preventing the cooling cycle from taking place. To stop this, change the filter each month or as suggested by the manufacturer.

3.Insufficient Refrigerant

Refrigerant is essential for air conditioning. It shifts from a low-pressure gas to a high-pressure liquid as it shifts between the indoor evaporator coil and outdoor condensing unit. If refrigerant is leaking, your air conditioner will operate poorly and may not generate enough chilled air. It could also cause a frozen evaporator coil, which as previously mentioned, prevents the cooling cycle completely. You’ll need help from an HVAC professional, like one from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning, to repair any refrigerant leaks.

4.Condensing Unit Need to be Cleaned

The outdoor component of your AC equipment is referred to as a condenser. This is actually a large heat sink that transfers hot air from your house. If the metal fins are laced with cobwebs, the condenser can’t do its job. Wash down the equipment to remove accumulated debris and shear back vegetation to make sure the condenser isn’t obstructed.

5.Condenser Fan or Compressor has Gone Bad

While you’re inspecting the condenser, verify the large fan at the top of the equipment is working. If the fan motor has gone out, the condensing unit can’t dissipate heat appropriately, and your air conditioner may start circulating hot air into your residence.

Pay attention to the sound of the compressor working inside the condensing unit too. This is the heart of your air conditioner, as the component cools the refrigerant. Then, the refrigerant can capture more heat when it comes back into your house. If the compressor goes out, you’ll typically need to get a new system and set air conditioning installation
