How to Troubleshoot Honeywell Thermostat Errors

Honeywell is one of the leading thermostat brands, and we proudly install them on a frequent basis in Winnipeg. They’re durable and reliable. Plus, Honeywell is regularly updating its technology, bringing more features for your residence.

Still, each thermostat can experience issues from time to time. That’s why we’ve put together this useful guidebook to run through troubleshooting. While Honeywell thermostat troubleshooting problems are rare, they do occur.

While you can often repair the majority of thermostat troubles by yourself, they often need Expert support. Our home comfort Experts are here to support you when you need us. We’re merely a call away at 204-800-0613.

Let’s start the process by determining what model of thermostat your home has.

What Kind of Thermostat Do I Have?

There are three models of thermostats:

    • Manual—This is the classic dial-shaped thermostat. You won’t run into error codes with this kind, but it’s also the least efficient for lowering energy bills.
    • Programmable—This thermostat features a digital screen and arrows you use to determine your desired temperature. You can also set daily programs to reduce the temperature when you’re at work and raise it when you come home.
    • Smart—You won’t have to make any programs on this thermostat, as it adjusts to your day. It instinctively changes the temperature when you or other household members are away to help you save on energy expenses. You can also adjust the temperature anywhere using your phone or other Wi-Fi-enabled device.

As you know the majority of technologically advanced things, there are several problems that may occur. Most of these situations don’t call for pro support and are uncomplicated enough to repair by yourself.

Common Honeywell Thermostat Troubleshooting Problems

Every Honeywell thermostat has a special set of codes assigned to the troubles that take place.

Think how simple it can be to fix a computer by restarting it. In most cases, correcting a thermostat can be just as simple.

Here is a listing the most encountered Honeywell thermostat problems. These are applicable to the following programmable thermostats:

Display is Blank

If the display is clear on your programmable thermostat, you may need to replace the batteries. If that doesn’t solve the malfunction or you have a smart thermostat, there may be a wiring issue.

Next, you should make sure the power is enabled for your furnace or air handler. Confirm the switch by the indoor unit is switched “up”.

Additionally, you should confirm all furnace cabinet or air handler doors/panels are sturdily in place.

A panel that isn’t tight may trigger the safety switch, which disconnects power to the system.

While it’s less common, an empty monitor may mean you will need to install a new thermostat.

HVAC Equipment Won’t Work

Ensure that your thermostat is set to “cool” or “heat,” not “off.”

During warm weather, confirm you put the thermostat below the room temperature. In the winter, confirm it’s higher. This sounds silly, but we’ve seen it occur many times.

Ensure the power switch near your indoor system is in the “on” position. You should also make sure the cabinet doors or panels are closed on your furnace cabinet or air handler. A loose panel can activate the safety switch, diverting power to the unit.

Heating or cooling still won’t turn on? Verify circuit breakers haven’t flipped and that your HVAC unit isn’t displaying error codes.

“Cool On” or “Heat On” is Flashing

First, ensure your thermostat is on “cool” or “heat.”

Then, check it’s calling for the right unit to turn on. This is typically demonstrated by “cool on,” “heat on” or a picture.

If these words or the icon is pulsing, your thermostat is in a five-minute delay mode. This feature stops your equipment from bad short cycling. This can happen if your power is interrupted.
