What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Calgary always writes about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it really mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is optional and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning that our experts are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these criteria, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification and not refrigeration, there are only specific areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
