4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Springtime may technically be here but in Calgary it’s not all warm and comfy outside. Your furnace has been working for months attempting to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some love. If you hear weird noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a severe gas smell, you almost certainly need furnace repair work and you should call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning promptly.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, review these tips from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

  • Confirm your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound obvious, but we are always running and life happens, so it can be easy to overlook the simple fixes. Forgetting to move over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair and installation when really you can resolve the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

On the topic of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially considering this switch isn’t one you tend to look at daily. Most systems have built-in delays so be patient when you turn your furnace on and give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Change your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters no less than every three months to help your furnace run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for decreased performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your family to become sick. Swap your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy. You may also schedule yearly maintenance with Service Experts and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your check up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get expensive, so avoid a future issue altogether with regular maintenance from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to service all your heating needs.
